Hiking from Brülisau to the Alp Rheintaler Sämtis

This is really a little paradise where the world is still a wonderful place
After you reached Brülisau parking Kastenbahn (the lower terminus of the cableway) and put on your hiking boots, you are faced with two different trails to choose from. I like to go up high towards Ruhesitz, across the Alp Soll and to Plattenbödeli.
Make your first stop at Plattenbödeli, either at the restaurant or walk down to the Sämtisersee where you will find a public grill. Take a cervelat with you and grill it at the lakeside, and if the weather permits, you could also go for a swim. After your break, walk directly to the Alp Rheintaler

On the large terrace of the hut, you could relax with some home made cheese, apple juice and/or a beer. You have the option of staying overnight which costs CHF 40.- including dinner and breakfast. Enjoy watching the sun go down, setting the mountains on fire and the sound of cowbells or just enjoy the quiet calm up there. There is no need to bring sleeping bags as bedding and towels are provided. Only take personal items along.
After a nice dinner, a good night's rest and a very tasty breakfast, go further up in the direction Bollenwees, then up the 'Stiefel' until you reach the Fahlensee. From there you could either take the direct way down towards Furgglenalp, Plattenbödeli and Brülisau or you could take the slightly longer way down to Furgglenalp, Rainhütte and Ruhesitz. To have some fun, rent a Trottinette (scooter) in Ruhesitz and ride down.

3 hours for the hike but with breaks you could extend it to a whole day

How to get there
By Public Transportation:
From Winterthur, take the IR 13 (direction of St. Gallen) to Gossau. In Gossau,
change to the S23 (direction Wasserauen) and get off at Weissbad (11 stops).
In Weissbad, take the bus, B192 (direction Brülisau, Kastenbahn). Get off at
Brülisau, Kastenbahn (4 stops). It takes 1h 36 min in total.
By Car:
Take the A1 in the direction of St. Gallen. Take Exit 80/St Gallen/Winkeln.
Drive in the direction of Appenzell/Hundwil and follow signs to Brülisau.
Drive on to "Dorf" (center of village). The parking area (Parking Brülisau Kastenbahn,
the lower terminus of the cable-way) is 100 meters away.
Parking is free, even on weekends.
